One of the homes of the Monarchy, Windsor in Berkshire is an amazing city hosting some of the most appealing attractions and activities for all ages and walks of life. Windsor holds over one thousand years of history combined with contemporary shopping experiences, fine dining and some of the best leisure activities in the country.
Not only is Windsor home to two of the United Kingdom's Top 20 Visitor Attractions but also there are so many others to enjoy. The Guard March and the Changing of the Guard are English traditions that should be witnessed by any Brit, and can only be experienced this close in Windsor. You can also enjoy a range of romantic activities, from boat trips on the River Thames, to horse-drawn carriage rides through Window Great Park, allowing you the chance to relax and becoming closer to those you love.
One of the two top twenty visitor attractions is a great hit with the kids: Legoland. Legoland features over fifty interactive rides, live shows, building workshops, driving schools and attractions all set in around 150 acres of beautiful land. Legoland Windsor mixes a range of cool building challenges with interactive attractions, exhilarating roller coasters and great family-friendly shows, making it a great day out for everyone. Released in 2009 was the Kingdom of the Pharaohs, a new attraction offering the opportunity to join an expedition into a lost tomb with a laser gun, on the Laser Raiders ride.
Another, more obvious, attraction in Windsor is Windsor Castle. Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and is the Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Its history spans around 1000 years and the castle itself covers an area of around thirteen acres and contains spectacular state apartments furnished with Royal Collection treasures. During the winter months, five additional rooms (the Semi-State Rooms) are included in the visitor route and all of the sights can be seen on one of the city sightseeing tours.
Windsor also offers wonderful opportunities for outdoor pursuits, such as walking, cycling, water-based activities and horse riding.
