Other accommodation near Stonehaven

Stonehaven, which is called Steenhive by the Scottish people, and is also called Cala na Creige in the Gaelic version of the Scottish language, is a town that is located in Aberdeenshire in Scotland on the north-east coast. Stonehaven has a population of about 10,000 people.

Stonehaven was established as a county town for Kincardineshire, during the Iron Age, and was surrounded back then by many fishing villages due to its closeness to the sea. That part is now called the old town - Auld Toon, and it expanded over the years to create what is now known as Stonehaven. Back then Stonehaven was known as Stonehyve or Stonehive in various maps of around the 16th century.

Due to its closeness to sea, when visiting it - either with your friends and family, you might want to rent a boat and take a cruise around the town's shores and see the scenery and architecture the town has to offer, quickly and with ease. You can also take a guided-tour cruise, which will allow you to relax and get all the information you want to get about the sea and the town's history, so you won't miss a thing. The cruise will take you to many different locations which you might not get to see otherwise.

You might also want to take a boat and go fishing with your friends and family, and have a fresh meal and nice company.

While in Stonehaven you might want to visit the various points of interest, which include various castles in which you can see the town's history and the old style of architecture that was common in Stonehaven. Among those castles is the Dunnottar Castle, which is a ruined castle that served as a fortress, which was built during the medieval times. The castle is located on a hill overlooking the sea, and is mostly ruined nowadays, but it has some buildings still standing, which you can visit. A road reaches it so you can reach it quite easily.

Another castle is the Fetteresso Castle, which is a castle that was built during the 14th century. The castle still stands, and is near many trees and green lawns, which make it an idyllic place to rest in. The castle is styled in the Scottish version of the Gothic style, and is a Palladian manor, which was built on a place that was used as early as the prehistoric era.

Other points of interest include the Mackie Academy and the local nature reserve - the Fowlsheugh Nature Reserve.

While in Stonehaven you might also want to visit the various churches that are located around the area, such as the three Churches of Scotland - like the Fetteresso Parish Church, or the local Baptist Church and many other churches for various other factions of Christianity.

Also while in Stonehaven you might want to enjoy the local commerce and cultural resorts, various activity centres, and the big nightlife that the town has to offer.
