Other accommodation near Southsea

The town of Southsea is one of the most fascinating and exciting locations in all of Hampshire. This lovely seaside resort town is the quintessential example of an English ocean side holiday getaway. Towns like Blackpool and Southsea were once quaint fishing villages until the popularity of seaside resorts exploded and every town that was on the coastline was quickly vying for the wealthy socialites of cities like London and York to come and funnel their money into the local economy. Southsea was just such a city but it has cleverly and brilliantly kept its name and reputation relevant despite the waning popularity of coastal towns. This is due to the fact that Southsea has never rested on its laurels and has always been dedicated to fostering pleasure and enjoyment in both its residents and its tourists.

Southsea is still one of the best shopping towns in England and it offers some of the finest high end clothing and merchandise around. Two major national boutiques can be found in the crowded but amazing shopping district and countless other small shops cater to buyers from all backgrounds and all financial situations. The night time, though, is actually when Southsea really gets going and people come from all around to revel in Southsea's often exciting and sometimes debauched nightlife. The piers at Southsea are also widely lauded for the fun that they offer, especially now that both piers house top of the line amusement arcades. South Parade Pier in particular is a fantastic destination because in addition to the rides and attractions there is also a ballroom and a fully stocked and extremely popular bar. Every summer Southsea creates some of the most entertaining outdoor festivals for miles around and it truly seems like the city was built with pleasure in mind.

Southsea may seem like a town indelibly steeped in the present but the truth of the matter is that the town has actually been around for quite some time. It was essentially founded by none other than the famed wife-slayer Henry VIII in 1544. The castle he erected was known as Southsea Castle and it spawned the name of the town despite that another two hundred years or more would remain in which there was little more than the castle for miles around. Eventually a suburb began to be built but even then Southsea spent most of the 1800s as a quaint fishing village in which fishing wasn't even particularly fruitful. All the same, the aforementioned boom in seaside resort towns forever changed Southsea and it is rather admirable to see how well these largely uneducated rubes who made up the old Southsea town managed to turn their village into a city with amazing poise and skill. This is the nature of Southsea, though: It has been a home to many for countless centuries yet it is also beloved by many visitors the second that they see it. Southsea is a lovely, gorgeous town but we must all share it and not be too overprotective because Southsea was truly made for each and every one of us.
