The town of Seahouses is far and away one of the most pristine and gorgeous areas in the entire United Kingdom. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody who knows that Seahouses is in Northumberland, though, considering the fact that Northumberland is a county that was literally built on beauty. The Northumberland Coast is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it sweeps across nearly forty miles of some of the most awe-inspiring coastline on the face of the Earth. Seahouses sits right within this stunning scenery and as such it enjoys a healthy and lively tourist industry thanks to the countless people who flock to the Northumberland Coast each year to see the amazing sights and frolic in the sand and water.
The fishing port also helps Seahouses maintain its popularity with visitors on holiday. While it is true that fishing has been an essential part of the town's identity for years, the port is often used as a starting point for vacationers who are taking a trip to the Farne Islands. The Farne Islands, or the Farnes as they are often shortened to, are a grouping of over fifteen gorgeous islands that help to endow the coast with its impressive appearance. Many people come to this area all year round to explore the historical soil on these islands as well as the old relics, like lighthouses and life boats, that can still be seen on many islands in the group. Don't think that Seahouses is merely a stopping point on the way to greater and grander adventures, though. On the contrary, Seahouses itself is filled with plenty of exciting diversions and destinations. Some of the most quaint and lovable shops in the United Kingdom can be found along the shoreline offfering everything from food to bait to lodging. Many local businesses offer charter trips that will take tourists out to the ocean to spots where seals and sea lions can be seen feeding.
If you go at just the right time, however, you can be privy to the famed and beloved Seahouses Festival. This fest has been occurring yearly since 1999 and it has grown immensely with each passing year. At its anlage it was a mere cultural blip on the radar but as it grew in popularity it was given a grant by the European Funding Program and now it is a full-fledged event that draws countless people into the fold to celebrate. While it started out as a way to commemorate sea shanties it is now more of a broad, general festival that celebrates happiness, peace, and love. Naturally the already sizable tourist population is even larger in the days leading up to this celebration but you can rest assured that you'll have a terrific time in Seahouses no matter what time of year you decide to visit. As the gateway to one of the greatest Outstanding Sites of Natural Beauty in the world it is truly one of the greatest treasures in the United Kingdom and should be regarded as such.
