North Berwick is very blessed to be a part of both Scotland and the Firth of Forth. Scotland is well known for having some of the most beautiful locales on the face of the Earth and the Firth of Forth, located within Scotland, is easily among the country's most stunning places. This give North Berwick a gorgeous seaside view that has been captured in countless paintings and works of poetry throughout the years. There are two sandy bays in North Berwick, appropriately known as East Bay and West Bay, and these two spots of coastline have been visited by countless tourists each year ever since the town exploded in popularity during the 1800s.
Make no mistake: North Berwick certainly became famous around the nation in the 19th century but the town had existed in full force for many centuries before that. As far back as the 1200s the town was known as Northberwyk in the Old English spelling and pronunciation but recent evidence uncovered near the south of town shows remnants of a series of huts from over two thousand years ago. Clearly North Berwick was an important home and community even in those days. As such, there is plenty of interesting things to see in and around the town for anybody interested in history. To be fair, plenty of people who visit North Berwick do indeed visit some of the fascinating historical relics in town but a vastly larger majority of holiday visitors come for the more conventional fun of sand, surf, and sun. This is all well and good, though, as North Berwick loves having people from far and wide visit its lovely shores and frolic in the enchanting scenery.
Not surprisingly, North Berwick has grown considerably in population just as its tourist trade has increased. This can no doubt be due to the countless holiday visitors who fell madly in love with the town during a vacation some time ago. At any rate, from the 1950s on North Berwick experienced a population boom and in the 1970s massive growth around the exterior of the town caused it to grow in area along with size. This growth didn't come without a hefty price tag, though; at this point in time North Berwick is the most expensive seaside town in Scotland in terms of house prices. Visiting the town, though, is still a very affordable venture and one that offers rewards of all kinds. In addition to the exciting natural features there are many fine eateries and shoppes that cater to tourists exclusively. The East Lothian Yacht Club can also be found in North Berwick and this adds considerably to the towns cache in terms of boating and water sports. In short, there are countless reasons for why one may be drawn to North Berwick and nearly everyone who does so is rewarded with bliss beyond belief. Pay North Berwick a visit but be warned: You may find yourself unable to leave and paying for an exorbitantly priced but incredibly rewarding home right in town.
