Monmouth Monmouthshire has a strong Royal history being the place of birth of Henry V and Edward IV too. It is the home of a magnificent bridge named Monnow bridge that dates back to medieval times. Still bearing a gate tower built in the 13th century it is made completely out of stones. Underneath it is the original bridge made of wood that was erected some time in the middle of the 12th century. It is one of three of these types of bridges still standing in Europe. The rich history can be viewed when visited.
Henry V was born at Monmouth Castle and while most of this great castle is now in ruins it is still a wonderful example of the areas Welsh background. One of the most beautiful castles ever constructed in Wales is the Raglan Castle. It was built during the 1400s. Its classic Tudor style come complete with gargoyles and a mote. From the top of the castle is an amazing view. It is one that all visitors have on their lists.
The architecture of Monmouth is a mix of Georgian and Tudor. Many examples of this are present in the town square. In it you can see the many stores, cafes and restaurants. There is also a multitude of hotels and inns plus bed and breakfasts that can suite any traveler. The Monmouth market is held three days per week. At the market you can find a wide variety of local garb for sale and is a must see when visiting the area.
There are many museums and great parks in the area. Monmouth has many activities to offer including rowing, biking and boating.
