First opened in the year of 1963, which was three years after Spencer's death, the gallery stands as a memorial to one of the most poignant artist's of the 20th Century. Opened by Spencer's friends and supporters, the gallery is run entirely on the help of volunteers and hosts 100 of Stanley Spencer's paintings and drawings as well as a separate exhibition space, which hosts two separate exhibitions per year.
