The beautiful town of Louth, in Lincolnshire, is only beginning to display the gorgeous scenery that it will eventually be known the world over for. While the city is by no means young, it is entering a stage of refurbishment and redevelopment that will hopefully ensure that it is no longer overlooked in favor of more prestigious cities and instead creates a newfound identity that will give it far more clout in international affairs.
As it stands now, Louth is already worthy of quite a bit of acclaim. Countless beautiful brick buildings from the 1600s and 1700s dot the landscape and the prize jewel, the St. James Church, is one of the most impressive cathedrals in all of England. With its 295 feet tall spire, the church is considered to be the tallest Anglican church in the entire United Kingdom when measured from spire height. Sadly, such prestige doesn't carry into every corner of the city streets. Louth has been repeatedly disparaged for having a glaring lack of independent retailers in its shopping districts. Major retailers have also had quite a bit of trouble trying to break into the city's difficult economy and far more have tanked than succeeded in recent years. Despite this, there is quite a bit of success for banks that are both private and public and there are some trends that are starting to show a possible upswing in the city's economy. It is still a bit too early to tell but there is at least the slightest bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
This isn't to say that Louth is a city on the verge of collapse, though. On the contrary, the city is a veritable treasure trove for its citizens. The music scene is far and away one of the best in all of England with such heavy hitters as the Southwold Jazz Band performing regularly at the Louth New Orleans Jazz Club. The famed electronica act known as Team Doboyi also frequently plays in Louth and the city is quickly garnering large amounts of acclaim from youngsters in surrounding cities. The arts are generally better represented in Louth than in most of the neighboring areas. The Louth Film Club, for instance, recently won the award for Film Society of the Year in the British Federation of Film's yearly competition. The group is based in the similarly lauded Playhouse Cinema and many fantastic events take place at this hallowed hall. Put simply, Louth is quickly becoming a city to keep an eye on and, with just a little more elbow grease applied in the right areas, nothing will stop Louth from becoming the juggernaut that it so richly deserves to be. The key to Louth's quickly growing success has to do with the fact that the city is so adept at reading the pulse of the nation's youth. With such prowess, it seems that soon we will all be singing the praises of Louth, whether it is in song, film, or on stage.
