Other accommodation near Isle of Mull

The Isle of Mull, off the west coast of Scotland, is something of an anomaly. It is the second largest island in the Inner Hebrides as well as the fourth largest island in all of Scotland. At over three hundred square miles, the Isle of Mull is also the fourth largest island that surrounds Great Britain. Despite its massive size, though, the Isle of Mull has less than three thousand citizens living within it. All the same, the tourist season does see a heavy increase in the population as thousands from the surrounding areas flock to the Isle of Mull in droves for their respective holidays. Some visitors journey to the Isle so that they can walk around the many historical sites found within while others enjoy the nightlife that is offered. Many, however, come simply to relax and take in the amazing natural landscape and scenic view of this esteemed land.

As far as the landscape is concerned, the Isle of Mull is a haven to anybody interested in both flora and fauna. Over two hundred and fifty different bird species call Mull home including such rare treasures as the White-tailed Eagle. The many boat tours that operate in Mull allow tourists to see the beautiful native sea life that includes dolphins, porpoises, and the elusive Minke Whale. This has caused many documentary filmmakers to visit Mull in order to capture on film these incredible species. "Eagle Island", a natural documentary program, frequently travels around Mull to photograph not only the White-tailed Eagles but also otters, golden eagles, cetaceans, sea eagles, and basking sharks. The scenic beauty of the landscape has also encouraged filmmakers more associated with fictional movies and television to visit Mull as well and many famous movies and programs have been shot in the Isle including Highlander: Endgame, Entrapment, Balamory, Kidnapped, and I Know Where I'm Going. In addition, many scenes from the various Harry Potter movies were shot in Mull.

This isn't to say that only people with a love for nature visit the Isle of Mull. On the contrary, purveyors of motor sports have an equal love for the Isle, due mainly to the famed Tour of Mull. This road rally race, sponsored by the 2300 Club, draws amateur and professional racers alike and the fast-paced event thrills countless spectators each year and has been the subject of a book called "The Best Rally in the World" by Brian Molyneux. Scuba divers also have a particular affinity for the Isle of Mull but it isn't just because of the amazing sea life to be found: During the days of the Spanish Armada, many ships were ported at the Isle and several of them were sunk during bombings or times of war. As a result, there are many sunken shipwrecks scattered amid the ocean floor around the Isle and countless divers come each year to lay eyes on the fascinating wreckage. Seemingly, there is no interest or hobby that isn't fulfilled by a visit to the Isle of Mull. Whether you love nature, technology, history, filmmaking, or Highlander: Endgame, the Isle of Mull will satisfy your every desire and then some.
