Other accommodation near Castleton

Let's get one thing out of the way first: Castleton, located in the county of Derbyshire, is a small town. As a matter of fact, using the word "town" might even be a stretch. "Hamlet" may be a more appropriate definition of Castleton. After all, the village is home to less than a thousand people. Don't think for a second, however, that this means that Castleton is rural in any way. Yes, it is definitely filled with a country atmosphere but this is actually a good thing. Few places in the world, much less England, have as stunning a landscape as this quaint little slice of heaven. The rolling hills and phenomenal views make Castleton so lovely that you actually end up happy that the town is so sparsely populated. One gets the feeling that even one extra household or one extra hotel would make the town just a little less beautiful. Therefore, it can be argued that Castleton is a tiny little nook of a town but this would be a foolish and, in the end, an unfounded argument. The reason for this is that Castleton is what is known as a "honeypot" town.

A honeypot town is essentially a town with a very small population, like Castleton, that belies its size by the huge amount of tourists that frequently come into the town during holidays and the like. The term honeypot is appropriate, then, if you imagine the tourists as bees and Castleton as a highly desirable source of bliss (and honey of course). Many of these people come to Castleton for the beautiful hills and, in particular, the Great Ridge. All around this area are countless walking paths and, naturally, a huge portion of the yearly visitors to the town are avid walkers. These public footpaths lead to any number of visceral treasures and some of these paths are very long. The walk to the Great Ridge is known to be a very difficult but very rewarding walk and those looking for even more intense walking can take the trek to Hayfield but be warned: It can take over a day to make it to the town. Those that are looking for a less strenuous and more enjoyable walk can take the many footpaths over the river to Hope, Bramford, and other small villages in the area. Bear in mind that none of these destinations are themselves particularly rewarding. The real reward is the walk. If this doesn't clue you in to the fact that Castleton is unbelievably gorgeous, nothing will. How many other locations can you think of where the main income of the town is based on people who just want to walk around and look at the landscape? There are of course countless pubs, shops, inns, resorts, and other fun diversions for those that don't want to walk around the entire time. The Castle Hotel and the Three Roofs Cafe themselves are popular draws and you can be sure that you'll have a great time even if you don't like walking or jogging. Castleton is simply that beautiful.
