Castle Donington, not to be confused with Donnington Castle, is a lovely village in the beautiful and picturesque county of Derbyshire that is home to over seven thousand people. This gorgeous town is a bit of an anomaly in that it is one of the most historic locations in and around Derbyshire yet it is also extremely popular in the modern era as one of the most progressive towns as far as youth entertainment is concerned.
One of the best examples of Castle Donington's ability to keep its finger on the pulse of each new generation is the town's Donington Park. It is here that all kinds of exciting and thrilling events occur all year round. The famed Donington Park motor racing circuit can be found here and all manner of race related activity is contained within the area. The Donington Grand Prix Collection is open to the public and it is the world's largest showcase Grand Prix and Formula One cars. Both the British Grand Prix and the European Grand Prix have been held in the beloved track and countless motor enthusiasts flock to the location each and every year. Music lovers are also catered to wonderfully in Castle Donington and Donington Park. During the 1980s and the 1990s one of the most famous concert events of the year, the Monsters of Rock heavy metal festival, was held in town and Castle Donington was in fact the first town in which the historic event took place nearly thirty years ago. Unfortunately the Monsters of Rock festival is no longer held in Castle Donington but the Download Festival, an equally thrilling and popular music fest, fills the void nicely.
Despite its vast popularity with younger generations, however, Castle Donington is most assuredly beloved by historians as well due to the fact that it is filled to the brim with treasures from the past owing to its advanced age. Castle Donington has been a recognized landmark for centuries but its first documentation dates to the early years of the 11th Century when it was referred to as "Dunitone". In those days it was more of a crossing point for the River Trent rather than a full-fledged town but all the same it was an important and indispensable part of the area. By the Middle Ages Castle Donington was a revered and beloved town in its own right, however, and to this day there are plenty of houses and buildings that date back to the 1600s and beyond. These edifices offer plenty of thrills to fans of both architecture and history and most experts consider the town to be among the best places to find examples of the gorgeous Georgian architecture that was the defining aspect of England in those days. By all accounts Castle Donington truly has something to offer everybody and this is an all too rare occurrence these days. As such, it is important to respect the town for how integral and important it is to so many different kinds of people.
