Other accommodation near Bromsgrove

The lovely town of Bromsgrove is sometimes overlooked due to its proximity to some of its larger neighbors. After all, when you're sixteen miles from Worcester and thirteen miles from the behemoth known as Birmingham you are likely to be overshadowed just a bit. Some of the thirty thousand residents of Bromsgrove actually consider themselves to be suburbanites of either of these larger cities rather than citizens of Bromsgrove. This is most unfortunate, though, because Bromsgrove is a town with a rich history and plenty of fantastic cultural offerings.

It seems that Bromsgrove has always had a bit of trouble maintaining its identity. In the 800s Bromsgrove was known as Bremesgraf. A hundred years later people were calling it Bremesburh. Later it became Bremesgrave and only after another century or two it was known by the name that it truly had the entire time: Bromsgrove. At any rate, Bromsgrove even had trouble keeping its identity after the pesky name issue was settled. Throughout the Middle Ages Bromsgrove never had a specific trade or economy that it depended fully on and instead the town seemed to be a jack of all trades, as it were; there was a time when the town depended on woodland trade by farming pigs and hunting wild game. Bromsgrove tried its hand at the wool industry which was thriving at the time but it never reached the level of prominence that many of its neighbors attained.

It wasn't until the sixteen hundreds that Bromsgrove finally made a name for itself. Nail making ended up being the economy that Bromsgrove could master and one might even say the town finally hit the nail on the head. At any rate Bromsgrove quickly became famous around the world for its nails and it soon was the world leader in nail production. Unfortunately, the Industrial Revolution was right around the corner and mechanization swiftly put an end to the fortunes of the town. Luckily, Bromsgrove realized that this new age would be a death knell to the idea of craftsmanship and with that idea in mind the town set about creating what would become the world famous Bromsgrove Guild. Master artisans from all walks of life came together in the town to craft brilliant works of art from iron and stone and people came from all around to pay these masters to work on their buildings. The famed gates of Buckingham Palace were built by the Guild and a visitor to the palace can still see the insignia of the guild on the locks.

Bromsgrove is definitely the kind of town that doesn't rest on its laurels and it is truly refreshing to see a town that refuses to fall by the wayside in favor of larger and more esteemed cities. If only every town had the kind of civic pride that the leaders of Bromsgrove have had and still possess. The world would truly be a better place if such were the case. Perhaps now people will begin to see the wondrous treasures that Bromsgrove has offered up throughout the years.
