The great thing about Biggar is that the town pays due respect to the land from which it sprung. All throughout the city one can find museums that offer tribute to the history of Scotland. The Moat Park Heritage Centre is great for anybody looking to learn a bit more about things that are decidedly Scottish while the Gladstone Court Museum is perfect for the history buff in everybody. The Biggar Gasworks Museum is a bit of an anomaly but even here you can find the unique style of the city: This location is home to the only preserved gas works left in Scotland. Another great oddity within the town is the hilarious and exciting Biggar Puppet Theatre. This is Scotland's only puppet theatre and it is an absolute necessity for any tourist visiting the town.

As far as adherence to the natural beauty of the area, Biggar does more than just immortalize it in museums. The town has recently become notable after launching the Carbon Neutral Biggar project. The idea behind this project is to make Biggar completely carbon neutral. In other words, the citizens of Biggar are working hard to make their carbon footprint invisible by producing as much as they destroy. If accomplished, Biggar will be the only carbon neutral town in the entire country. This may be a bit difficult but it is the perfect example of the respect that Biggar has for the things that are greater than us all. This is the nature of Biggar, though: No matter how much its neighbors like Glasgow and Edinburgh grow, Biggar knows that immortality is just a word and the best way to live on forever is to leave behind a legacy based on respect and care for that which wrought us. If you are traveling through Scotland it is highly recommended that you take aside a bit of time to explore this modern-day Eden.
