Barnstaple, which is located in the northern part of Devon, is both a town and a civil parish, that is located in England, near places like Bristol and Plymouth. Due to its closeness to various cities and towns in the vicinity, it is a highly sought after vacationing spot for businessmen and women, who are interested in advancing their careers or in taking business trips, while still enjoying themselves. Barnstaple claims to be the oldest borough in the entire area of the United Kingdom, and was founded at the lowest crossing point of the Taw river, near the Bristol Channel.

Barnstaple used to have its own mint around the middle ages, and had been a wealthy town in those standards, and it was also a port that was allowed to export wool, which turned it into a busy port town and an industrial town.

Barnstaple has a population of about 21,000 people, but it has many more tourists visiting it throughout the years. Barnstaple is easily reachable by various modes of transportation, such as the local railway lines, which you can take from the Barnstaple railway station. Other modes of transportation include the local buses and coaches, which reach both nearby locations - such as towns and cities, and local points of attraction, which allows you to forgo taking a car, and having to worry about parking space. The main bus station is located a the Summerland Street and Silver Street junction, and there are also National Express services from that station.

If you prefer to be mobile and take a car, you can use the many different motorways - such as the M5 or the A361, that are located near Barnstaple. You can also reach Barnstaple by air using the airport in Exeter, and take a bus or a taxi to Barnstaple, so you don't have any problem reaching Barnstaple, by any means.

Also while visiting Barnstaple you might want to take part in the ceremonial fair - the Barnstaple Fair, which takes place since ancient times. The fair offers toasts of spiced ale that is made from a guarded and secretive recipe, which was handed down through the years. Sweetmeat - which is called fairings, is also offered to people to dine on.

During the Barnstaple Fair many different activities take place, and a procession marches through the streets. The fair starts in the month of September each year, and it offers rides and amusements for both adults and kids, near the leisure center's car park, so it's not just ceremonial.

Also while visiting Barnstaple you might want to take part in the various sports that take place in the town, or watch a professional team play. The types of sporting events you can watch include cricket, which is played at the Barnstaple and Pilton area, or football, which is played by the Barnstaple Town FC.

Other types of sports played in the town include rugby, which is played by the senior rugby union which the Barnstaple RFC are a part of.
