Bala, which is also called Y Bala in the Welsh language, is both a market town and a community that is located in Gwynedd in Wales. Bala was once an urban district of the former county of Merionethshire, and it lies to the north at the end of the lake Bala (which is also known as Llyn Tegid). Bala is close to Dolgellau and various other locations, which makes it an ideal place for people who are interested in seeing as much as they can during their vacation or visit. Bala has a population of about 2,000 people, which makes it a town that is equipped with everything you might want to have, but is still green and has a nice and quiet atmosphere that is ideal for relaxation.
Bala is known for its Stryd Fawr Street, which is a wide street that its name Welsh means "Big Street". Stryd Fawr is locally known as High Street, and it has various shops in its area, which draw a lot of tourists year round. When visiting Bala you might want to visit the local points of interest, and enjoy the local nightlife, which includes a trip to the Stryd Fawr Street, with its many shops and places to go to.
Back in the 18th Century Bala was already developing, and it became a well known location for manufacturing flannel, stockings, hosiery, gloves and more. Due to its long history, Bala has a tower called The Tower of Bala, or Tomen in the Welsh language, which is situated where an ancient Roman camp once stood. There is also a grammar school that was founded as early as 1712, as well as many different historical points of interest that are located around the town.
While visiting Bala you might want to visit the local Bala Lake, which is called Llyn Tegid in the Welsh language, and it is the largest natural lake in the entire area of Wales. Bala Lake serves as a home for several fish who are currently endangered, since their habitat is becoming more and more unsuitable for their species. The lake sometimes freezes and serves as a nice backdrop for people who are interested in seeing the local natural sights, or for people who just want to go for a walk.
While in Bala you can also visit the local Victoria Hall, which is a small and old cinema that was once a community hall. There are also various chapels in the area, which you can visit when vacationing in Bala.
While in Bala you might also want to visit the local Afon Tryweryn, which gets its waters from the Llyn Celyn, and is the perfect place for white water kayaking and canoe rides. In that place international events are being held by the local canoe unions and federations, as well as national events. There are three campsites that offer a place to stay for the people who visit for the local and international events at the Afon Tryweryn.
