Ambleside in Cumbria is well known as being at the head of the Windermere Lake in the Lake District. This part of the north west of England is very well known and liked by tourists and visitors for its tranquil environment.

An impressive feast of architecture can be seen in the University of Cumbria which is located just on the north side of the town. For fans of William Wordsworth (English Poet 1770-1827) can see his house nearby in Rydal Mount. Even though Wordsworth was not born here (he was born in London) he is seen as a child of the region. When you came here to take part in the outdoor activities you should also visit the 2 outdoor shops in town. Gaynor's is the largest UK outdoor shop and it has 5 departments over a massive 3 floors. The Climbers shop was, in 1959, the first dedicated shop to be opened in Ambleside.

When you are done with the walking or climbing you can relax with a drink. This is easily done here as there are an incredible 10 pubs in a 400metre radius.
