Alnwick, which is pronounced anik, is considered to be a small market town that is located in Northumberland in England, and has a population of about 8,000 people - about 32,000 in the entire Alnwick district.

Alnwick was chosen as the most picturesque market town in Northumberland in October of 2002, by Country Life, is reach with greenery and with various buildings of historical significance.

Alnwick is located just 32 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is about 51 kilometres, and is very close to the Scottish border and to the North Sea - about 5 miles or 8 kilometres.

Due to Alnwick's location, it is an ideal location to stay in for the family that wants to both learn about the local history, visit local buildings of historical significance who are interesting to see - due to the unique style of architecture back then, which means heavy fortification, because of the security situation in the area in those days, and for a family that wants to relax and enjoy themselves in a very green and healthy place.

You might want to take a stroll or have a picnic under one of the many trees in the area, which are very close to the town. The green grass reaches as far as the Alnwick Castle which borders the market town, so you'll never be lost and you won't have to walk for long, if you don't want to.

Also due to Alnwick being close to nearby locations, it is ideal for people who want to make the most out of their stay in the area, since some places stop being interesting or fun after a certain time. So visitors will be able to take a car or a bus and enjoy the drive, and get to somewhere new, and visit as much as possible, and return to Alnwick for a much needed rest. Also Alnwick is very close to the sea which means that visitors will be able to enjoy activities like swimming in the sea, or taking a boat with friends and just sailing, or enjoying the local fishing and making a picnic out of it.

Also visitors to Alnwick can also enjoy various water sports - such as swimming, and various other sports, which take place in the area.

Also Alnwick is famous for its landmarks, which include the Alnwick Castle, which is the home of the Duke of Northumberland, and is the site in which the Alnwick Garden is located in. The Alnwick Castle is located to the west of the town, near the Aln river, and is serving as a hub for the local commerce and education centres in the town.

Alnwick is also famous for its market, which is located at the centre of the town, near the modern Northumberland Hall, which is frequently used as a meeting place for both companies and individuals. Near the marketplace are the main streets, that offer shopping and various other attractions. Also if you arrive at Alnwick during the snowy season, you will see a picturesque scenery.
